Of course Ben,

Just select the form in the family and in the instance properties associate the Material Parameter to a new parameter called "Material" or whatever you fee like. Then you'll have a parameter in the project to modify.

There are a few others ways to control the material but this would be my recommendation.

Yes that's definitely possible. What I showed was a very basic example of the use of the points based templates and adaptive components.

I'd probably do the brackets as a nested family so they are easier to constrain, or place them as separate face based families in the project and then host one of the adaptive points on each of the brackets.

With this approach if you moved the brackets the points would update automatically...
